Thanks to all my loyal readers for your good wishes and support after my last blog, The whole experience of recognising Kate’s birthday and acknowledging that she is in heaven, and not somewhere to be “found”, has been a huge relief, and I feel quite different, but also a bit whacked! Work and family life continue, and it’s difficult to find time to yourself. This weekend I am going to have some time off for good behaviour as the kids are going to my parents for a bit and I can’t wait.
However, last night we had our first “Inspire” night with my lovely mum Rev Dr Sue Nightingale, who spoke about her life, and how the death of Kate has affected her, and led her into faith and leadership in life. The night was a big success thanks to the fantastic team of supportive women at St Paul’s and a good dose of the Holy Spirit to help us along. We are going to be running a regular slot and I will be posting on Facebook the resources we’ve used afterwards.
A friend was praying for me and gave me a picture of a tractor ploughing a field. A new clean field, all the mud turned over, and ready for planting. The message seemed to be that the process may be a bit of a roller-coaster but God’s work is always for the good.
The song “If I was a butterfly” was an unusual choice for us all but got us all thinking about how God sees children and us as the child we are inside, “and this verse was read out
Mark 10, 13-16:
“People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.”
The message was that we don’t need to pretend to be cool and grown-up and have all the answers before God will have a conversation with us, “I just thank you father for making me, me, me!!”
